Tina Guthrie, who was appointed musical director of the Torbay Singers in the Spring of 2005, read music at Bristol University, specialising in flute performance and the study of early French opera. After her graduation in 1982, she completed a PGCE at Cambridge and went on to pursue a successful teaching career in the Midlands, latterly becoming Head of Music at The Trinity School, Nottingham.  She has been a leading member of St Michael’s Singers, Coventry, and of Derby Bach Choir; she has also conducted the Lord Williams’s Choral Society, Thame and the Bell Singers as well as numerous school-based choirs. As a flautist she has performed with the Leamington Chamber Orchestra and is a founder member of the ‘Champagne Flutes’ quartet which regularly performs at venues across the country. Tina has become increasingly active as a solo soprano and orchestral flautist. She currently teaches voice and flute at The Maynard School, Exeter and sings in Exeter Chamber Choir, in which she occasionally deputises as conductor.
